Fizzy Fish Nursery

Day nursery

Our environment

Fizzy Fish is a small nursery in West Blatchington providing high quality, flexible childcare for children aged 0 to 3 years (children can then transfer to our sister settings Fizzy Fish Pre School or Fizzy Fish @ Peter Gladwin until they start school). Fizzy Fish nursery is situated in a large five bedroom house semi-detached house with secure and extensively equipped garden for outdoor play. The babies are based downstairs with the toddlers being upstairs. We offer singing, storytelling, sensory activities, organised activities and free play. There are indoor soft play areas in the nursery with a large range of toys and games which are constantly being renewed and updated. We also have a messy room downstairs where the children all eat and partake in messy activities.

We aim to provide a loving, caring and stimulating environment where children feel they belong at Fizzy Fish. We believe that every child is unique and will each thrive from different environments depending on their age and stage of development. All children are therefore given the opportunity to develop and grow at their own pace in a variety of learning environments. Each child has their own key person who ensures that the children are being given such opportunities.

We use Tapestry the online learning journal so you can keep up to date with your child’s learning and development. Fizzy Fish Nursery is open Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6pm each day, 52 weeks a year, excluding Bank Holidays

Our staff

At Fizzy Fish we have a Key Person approach. The Key Person has special responsibility for a particular child and their aim is to observe, encourage and extend the child’s learning experiences. They work with the child and their parents/carers to ensure the child’s care and educational needs are fully met, while ensuring the child is happy and feels secure in the setting.

We work in partnership with parents/guardians to provide high quality childcare, specific to the developmental needs to each child, by actively asking for feedback and comments about our weekly menu, our outings, the activities and the care we provide. We aim to incorporate this feedback into the day to day running of Fizzy Fish. As childcare professionals working together we are constantly talking about and acting upon ways in which we can improve Fizzy Fish.

All our staff attend a number of training courses to ensure that we are up to date with childcare requirements and that our practice is guided, both locally and nationally. We also ensure that all staff are up to date with our policies and procedures which cover key welfare issues such as Special Educational Needs, Equalities and Safeguarding of Children.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Each setting has a Special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCo) who monitors the needs and progress of children with SEN. We are committed to making our setting inclusive and accessible to all children and making sure that children are able to reach their full potential. To do this staff ensure that the curriculum offered is inclusive of children with special educational needs and children with disabilities.

We treat all children in our care with equal concern so they have the same opportunities to develop their own potential and to grow as individuals with different needs. Sometimes this may mean taking the relevant steps to adapt our facilities or an activity to suit the child’s ability and stage of development, providing additional resources or more attention and support to meet the needs of everyone.

Inclusion

All staff contribute to, and ensure that the setting takes into account each child’s race, culture, religion, language and family values.

We are committed to providing equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice in everything we do. We help children to develop positive attitudes towards people who are different from themselves and help them avoid prejudice. We also help children to develop a sense of their own identity within their racial, cultural and social groups, as well as having the opportunity to learn about cultures that are different from their own. We will encourage parents to share with us details of any festivals, special occasions or artefacts, which may enhance the children’s learning and understanding.

For families who speak languages in addition to English, we develop a means to ensure their full inclusion. We encourage language development and communication by reading stories, singing, signing or Makaton and providing an extensive library of books that are always accessible to the children and exploring language through group discussion.

Food

We provide a real home from home setting at Fizzy Fish Nursery, including freshly cooked meals by our resident chef. Fizzy Fish is committed to serving the children with healthy and nutritious food and we only use good quality products and ingredients. We are able to cater for allergies or prohibited foods. We provide all the children's food during their time with us which is included in the fees.

Flexible, emergency and occasional childcare

We want to make childcare accessible to all so offer a range of sessions to suit your childcare needs including early drop offs and late pick-ups. Parents are able to book extra sessions and swap sessions during the week. Each year, we offer bookings for extra sessions during the summer holidays for all our children including term time only and ad hoc children.

Transport Options

Bus routes 5, 5A and 5B all stop within walking distance of the nursery. There is on street parking available for parents.
