Hopscotch Nursery (Portland Road)
Our environment
Established by local teacher Barbara Watson in 1988, Hopscotch has over 30 years of childcare experience. We are an independent family run business with six locations across East Sussex and our aim is to provide first-class childcare at affordable prices. Hopscotch values a learning environment which is calm, structured and family-orientated and with the aim of delivering excellence in childcare. We are rated Outstanding by Ofsted.
At Hopscotch, our priority is to help unlock your child’s potential and help them become confident, accomplished and happy individuals. Our holistic approach to childcare nurtures their academic, social and emotional needs to ensure they develop the skills which will set them on the right course, both at school and in later life.
Our Portland Road nursery has 2 outside play areas, five large, bright and spacious nursery rooms including a large indoor two-level softplay room. Our children love to burn off energy each session climbing the steps, whizzing down the slide into the ball-pool, rocking on our giant see-saw or building with our large soft-blocks. All of our rooms are furnished to a high standard with Community Playthings wooden equipment.
The baby room has a calm, nurturing atmosphere with soft lighting, music, aromas and a cosy area to promote emotional wellbeing. It also has its own specialist equipment for babies to develop their physical skills when starting to crawl and walk, creating a stimulating environment for our youngest children. We have a dedicated small group classroom to support children in smaller groups who need a little extra help.
Our Staff
Across the organisation we have over 180 professional and experienced staff members, including a qualified Early Years Teacher at every nursery. Our passionate and long-standing team of practitioners in each nursery work closely with parents to develop a trusting and supportive partnership.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Hopscotch have a SendCo at all nurseries. Our SENDCo at our West Hove nursery works closely with the Key Person. They also work with other practitioners to ensure the provision is appropriate and relevant for your child.
Food
Hopscotch offers all children a healthy breakfast of cereal and milk each morning, and a selection of fruit, savoury snacks and milk during the day. Hopscotch supplies Tommee Tippee bottles and Aptamil formula milk for babies.
Parents can choose to provide their own packed lunch so they can decide what their child eats each day, catering for their individual and dietary needs. Hopscotch Nurseries provide the option of a Little Tums Hot Lunch and/or Hot Tea at an extra cost of £3 per meal. They can cater for various dietary requirements such as vegetarian, dairy free, sugar free and vegan etc.
Flexible, emergency and occasional childcare
We offer Flexible childcare to accommodate shift patterns dependant on availability. Dependant on availability we can also offer Emergency and Occasional sessions.
Transport
We are located within a convenient 10-minute walk to Hove, Aldrington or Portslade railway stations which enables easy transport links to wherever you work. Bus routes to the nursery are 2, 2a, 25, 46, 49, 49a, 93 and 95a. Parking varies around all nurseries.
