Butterfly Nursery

Day nursery

Fully flexible NHS nursery run for the whole community based on the site of Hove Polyclinic.

We care for children from 3 months to 5 years in the nursery but also care for children in the school holidays up to the age of 7. You do not need to work for the NHS to use our nursery, we welcome the whole community. We also run Hilltop nursery in Brighton and Rainbow nursery in Crawley.

We have a team of highly qualified and experienced staff who take part in on-going training and have stayed working with us for many years. We operate a ‘key-worker’ approach where each child has their own dedicated staff member supporting them with everything from settling, their development and their transitions.

Communication with parents is key to our ethos and we use an App “Famly” to regularly update parents about their child’s progress, key nursery events and activities. Using this system parents are also able to easily communicate with nursery staff. Parents are always welcome in the nursery and we provide a space for breast feeding.

Flexible, emergency and occasional childcare

Butterfly is a fully flexible nursery that is open from 7am – 7pm, and is open 51 weeks of the year.

The nursery will match your shift patterns with advance notice, care for older children in the holidays, and provide ad-hoc or occasional childcare with free settling sessions.

Butterfly also offers 2, 3 and 4 year old funded sessions in a flexible way helping you make the most of the funding available.

This flexibility particularly suits parents who start work early, finish work later, need childcare for young primary aged children in the holidays or need short term or occasional care for appointments, training, interviews or unusual work patterns.

Our environment

The nursery is purpose built for childcare, on one level with easy access to a large garden. We have 4 play rooms for 4 age groups: under 1’s, under 2’s, 2-3’s and 3-5’s. However, if the children want to mingle across the rooms we support this.

Indoors the children enjoy creative and interesting activities supported by the staff team. They particularly enjoy loose parts, bubbles, treasure baskets, messy play, water and soft play.

Outdoors there is a large garden where children enjoy the mud kitchen, growing vegetables and flowers, home corner, climbing equipment, scooters, water play and much more. We encourage access to the garden all year and have a covered area where the children can have fresh air and enjoy protection from the sun or rain.

Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We have strong commitment and experience of including children with SEND and also experience of working with children who have health conditions. We have a fully qualified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator and many staff are experienced in caring for children with additional needs.

The nursery is accessible with parking bays right outside, wide doors, on one level, with low level sinks and toilets. So would be suitable for parents or children who are wheelchair users or have limited mobility.

Food

We are a vegetarian nursery and provide breakfast, a hot lunch, a cold tea and snacks throughout the day. Parents pay £5 per day for food. The food is provided by “Little Tums”

We can cater for dietary requirements for diagnosed allergies/intolerances.

Transport Options

Local bus routes: the 5A bus stop is outside the nursery.

There is plenty of parking for dropping off and collecting children in the large car park of Hove Polyclinic.

Parents could also leave their bike on site.
