Charley Barley's Nursery
Our environment
Situated at Fiveways, Brighton, our beautiful double fronted property has been fully refurbished, giving a bright and airy feel. Charley Barley’s Nursery consists of four dedicated areas, split across 2 floors, with a private garden at the rear. We aim to provide a home away from home environment, where your children will be cared for in safe and friendly surroundings by high quality staff.
Charley Barley’s believe that children have a voice and learn through exploring the environment and materials around them. We give the children the opportunity to learn and develop by day to day routines and providing a range of activities such as sensory play, dressing up and enjoying the mud kitchen outside. Charley Barley's ensures that children feel confident to explore all areas provided.
Our nursery is open throughout the year, Monday to Friday. Closing only for bank holidays and between Christmas and New Year.
Our staff
All children are cared for in our safe and friendly surroundings by our high quality, trained staff. Children work closely with their keyworkers who support children in all stages of their development.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Here at Charley Barleys we have 4 trained SENCO’s one who is situated with our Babies and Teenies, one who is situated with our Toddlers and Pre-school and two who are based in our office. The SENCO’S work closely to advise and support all staff and parents. All of our staff have attended Makaton training and use these skills throughout their day. We also have staff trained in specific areas of special needs such as; cognition and learning, sensory and or physical needs and speech language and communication development.
As a setting we pride ourselves in ensuring we have a range of resources to support the needs of all the children in our care. We use Individual support plans (ISP) to help us support and plan for children’s individual targets before reviewing these to help us gain a good understanding of their specific next steps. As a setting we create time and space for the children to engage in one to one and small group activities. We also support and engage with outside professionals to ensure the children are getting the most effective support.
Inclusion
We like to ensure we are supporting all children so they can grow and develop, we ensure to use Makaton and model clear language alongside signs, symbols and clear visuals. We also work closely with parents to share information and discuss strategies. Aswell as welcoming the support and advice of outside professionals. Many of our staff are equalities trained.
Food
A nutritious breakfast and a healthy freshly prepared lunch is provided for children attending our morning and all day sessions by our chef. For those attending the afternoon session, as well as staying with us all day, tea will be provided. Also snacks will be provided in both morning and afternoon sessions.
