CAP Debt Help (Christians Against Poverty)

CAP is a national organisation that provides free debt counselling to help lift people out of debt and poverty. Although they are a Christian charity, approximately 98% of people they help are not Christian and religion is not something that they promote through this service.

You can call their central freephone number and they will arrange for a local debt representative to visit you at home. This can take up to 6 weeks for a new case to be visited but they will prioritise and intervene sooner if someone is in urgent need. CAP is very hands on and will work out a payment plan for debts and will contact creditors directly on clients’ behalf rather than leaving people to do the tasks themselves.
