Home Childcarers - privately registered with Ofsted
A home childcarer can be registered with Ofsted as a private individual, to provide parents with childcare in their own home. You can contact such childcarers directly or through an agency.
A Home Childcarer has:
- a childcare qualification at Level 2 or equivalent, or a qualification in a related field, such as nursing, teaching or youth work
- Ofsted registration (Voluntary Childcare Register status) which also requires them to have Paediatric First Aid, Public Liability insurance and a DBS police check
Benefits of using a registered Home Childcarer:
- You can use funding such as tax credits, employer vouchers or tax free childcare, to pay your childcare fees. (You cannot do this with an unregistered nanny, babysitter or childcarer)
- You can be sure that the childcarer is qualified and insured, as above
